Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia is a medical term that originates from the Greek wording of: “women-like breasts.”

This condition is actually quite common. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men, but to varying degrees. Though certain drugs and medical problems have been linked with male breast overdevelopment, there is no known cause in the vast majority of cases.

Liposuction is used to remove excess fat, a slim hollow tube (cannula), is inserted directly through the existing incisions. The cannula is attached to a vacuum pump to suction out the fat.

Dr. El-Attar typically makes a small incision of less than a half-inch in length around the edge of the areola (in some instances, the incision may take place in the underarm area). You may feel a vibration or some friction during the procedure, but generally no pain. The chest is then wrapped to keep the skin firmly in place.

For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, breast-reduction surgery can help. The procedure removes fat tissue from the breasts, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured.
